Numerology the magic of numbers

The basis of numerology is the following principle: all multidigit numbers can be modified to one-digit numbers (simple numbers from 1 to 9), that correspond to certain occult characteristics, influencing human’s life. That is each one-digit number has certain fixed properties, definitions and images. Since alphabet letters can have numerical representation through their ordinal number, any words or names undergo the same numerical operations as numbers.

Numerology is an ancient esoteric science about numbers that is quite often called the magic of numbers, but truly this science is much closer to astrology than to magic.

Numerology like astrology helps us to specify character, natural gifts, strong and weak sides, predict future, to define the most suitable time for making decisions and actions. It is possible to choose partners in business and marriage with the help of numerology.

It is difficult to say when exactly numerology started for the reason that in the ancient times (in Babylon, India, Egypt, Greece and Rome) there was no such science, another form of it was common and it was arithmomancy (divination by numbers).

The main principles of the present variant of Western numerology were created in the VI century B. C. by an ancient philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras who united mathematical systems of Arabs, Druids, Phoenicians and Egyptians with sciences of human’s nature. Pythagoras traveled a lot in Egypt and other countries; after coming back he founded a special philosophical society in Southern Italy. In this society, or Pythagorean School, they studied sciences, like arithmetic, geometry and astronomy, and greatest discoveries were made. Pythagoras discovered that four known at the time musical intervals can be expressed as a proportion of 1 to 4 digits. Then he realized that numbers 1 and 4 and other numbers added to them to make 10 in a sum make up a sacred number that represents material and metaphysical wholesomeness of the Universe or perfection. If four notes can be expressed by numbers, Pythagoras believed, then, probably, everything living can be expressed by numbers. The Universe is expressed by numbers from one to four, which become sources of everything living if you add them to ten. 

Pythagorean School has substantially influenced the formation and development of spiritual secret societies in Europe, like Rosicrucians, Masons, Anthroposophists and others. Since then and till now this version of numerology is still developing.

Numerology acquired special importance in studies of Cabbala, where its version is known as gematria. Cabbalists have widened the concepts of Pythagoras using numbers in magical squares for different purposes. With the discovery of the nature of light, electricity and magnetism by scientists in the  XIX century, ancient occult meanings, that were assigned to numbers, started to be assigned to energy vibrations as well.

Without getting into labyrinths and depths of Cabbala cosmology and its esoteric doctrines, modern numerology prefers simplified numeric and alphabet code, based on Pythagoras’ theories. Pythagoras, his students and followers reduced all the numbers to 1 to 9 inclusively, since these are the original numbers that can produce all the rest. To reduce large numbers into elementary numbers different systems have been created. The easiest and the most popular method is to add all the digits of this number and then if the resulting number is 10 or more, add the digits again. This process goes on until you get an elementary number from 1 to 9 (in some versions of numerological calculations two-digit numbers 11 and 22 so-called numbers of the Teacher are not reduced to one-digit numbers).

You can determine from a number, for example, what kind of new year is coming up and how to use this new year to your advantage. From the numerological point of view, the time moves on along eternally repeating cycles of 1 to 9. In the framework of hundreds of years and decades each new year brings a new number. Days and months inside a year can also be divided into cycles. These cycles dominate everything in the Universe.

Each of us has his own individual cycle, based on individual numbers coming from different operations with the date of birth and/or letters of the full name.
